Nepomuk Riva (born 1974) studied musicology and theology in Heidelberg and Berlin. His dissertation is a study on the written and oral traditions of Cameroonian church music which was part of the Graduate School “Schriftbildlichkeit” at the Freie Universität Berlin. Later on he worked as a research associate at the Humboldt University in Berlin and also worked at the University of Music, Theater and Media in Hanover on a project about the representation of Africa in the history of European music. At the Center for World Music, Nepomuk Riva is the coordinator of the SDG Graduate School ‚Performing Sustainability. Cultures and Development in West Africa’. Since his own teaching experience in Cameroon and South Africa, Nepomuk Riva has been particularly enthusiastic about intercultural exchange through mutual learning.
For many years, Nepomuk Riva has also worked as a freelance editor for various German television companies and production companies and has linked field research with documentary film projects. The Center for World Music with its diverse archives and collections, offers him a stimulating working environment.
