The Institute of Mathematics and Applied Informatics at the Faculty 4 (Mathematics, Natural Sciences, Economics and Computer Science) invites applications for a
Junior Professorship (m/f/x)
for Didactics of Informatics
starting 01 April 2022
(grade W1 with tenure-track to grade W2, according to the Lower Saxony scale of remuneration (Niedersächsische Besoldungsordnung, NBesO)).
This professorship is one of five professorships the Stiftung Universität Hildesheim has been granted by the Tenure Track Programme of the German Federal Government and the Federal States. It specifically targets researchers at an early stage in their academic career. Candidates represent computer science didactics in research and teaching as broadly as possible.
The professorship is primarily anchored in the degree programs in the field of computer science teaching. The core area of the professorship lies within the teacher training programme for informatics. The successful candidate should be prepared to design and convene pertinent professional and didactical courses as well as teaching placement programmes. Participation in curriculum development for different lines of study and the respective offerings for continuing and further education as well as in the service activities of the institute is expected.
Parts of the service duties consists of involvement across faculties in, amongst others, the following focus areas: Informatics systems in cross-disciplinary tuition, digitalisation of education, diversity-aware and inclusive education and informatics and society. Within the faculty, the service duties also include contributions to projects for enhancing student success in STEM programmes. Disciplinary service duties include the responsibility for selected courses in informatics for students of our bachelor and master programmes in mathematics, informatics, and information systems.
- Completed university degree (computer science, teaching degree in computer science)
- Special aptitude for in-depth independent scientific work, which is usually proven by an above-average doctorate in computer science didactics or computer science
- Pedagogical-didactical qualification as evidenced through practical experience
- Willingness to further develop the necessary social and leadership competencies
The successful candidate has in-depth knowledge of computer science didactics as well as knowledge of the broad basics of computer science. An additional research focus in didactics of computer science in addition to the topic pursued during the PhD is expected. Ideally, the candidate’s research focuses link well to existing Hildesheim research in mathematics didactics and / or computer science. Research projects with other academic partners, industry, educational institutions etc. are welcome.
The prospective holder of the professorship will teach in German and is
therefore expected to speak German at the appropriate level or develop
such mastery within one year after the appointment.
The formal requirements result from section 30 of the Lower Saxony Higher Education Act (Niedersächsisches Hochschulgesetz, NHG). The Junior Professor will be employed by the University of Hildesheim Foundation for an initial period of three years. Subject to a positive interim evaluation according to section 30 para. 4 clause 2 of the Lower Saxony Higher Education Act (Niedersächsisches Hochschulgesetz, NHG) and a positive tenure evaluation in accordance with the revised Tenure-Track Regulations of the University of Hildesheim as well as the general requirements under German civil service law, the incumbent will be appointed a tenured professor (grade W2, NBesO).
