Representation of migration in visual media (1st ed. 2025) UNED
November 4 to December 8, 2025 (free access)
The MOOC builds on the power of film and other visual media to express complex issues, and on the power of visual storytelling to transform attitudes and perceptions. The course will identify current narratives of migration in different European countries and analyze the language and imagery that is used. In this context, the MOOC aims to disseminate transnational and comparative perspectives on migration, particularly the situation of refugees, resituating the issue of migration in public discourse. With a focus on the development of critical skills, analytical competencies, civic engagement and common values, the contents of the MOOC have the intention of changing the perception of migration from a problem or a crisis that allegedly endangers the core of European values, to an opportunity to create diverse communities that are open to difference, heterogeneity, and the arrival of the other.
