Leon Krings is member of the research team at GloPhi – Philosophizing in a Globalized World with a specialization in Japanese and East-Asian philosophy and a methodological background in phenomenology, embodied cognition, and Buddhist thought.
He is co-founder of the European Network of Japanese Philosophy and editor-in-chief of the European Journal of Japanese Philosophy (EJJP). Recent publications include Histories of Philosophy and Thought in the Japanese Language (2022, co-edited with Yoko Arisaka and Tetsuri Katō), a commented translation of Zeami’s Mirror to the Flower into German (2023, co-edited with Ryōsuke Ōhashi and Rolf Elberfeld), and Transitions: Crossing Boundaries in Japanese Philosophy (2021, co-edited with Francesca Greco and Yukiko Kuwayama).
His PhD thesis on the phenomenology of embodiment patterns (型 kata) in the Japanese “pathway arts” (道 dō) has been published as a monograph with Alber Verlag under the title Phenomenology of Kata Practice: Towards an Intercultural Philosophy of Embodied Practice (in German).
Besides contributing his regional and academic expertise, Krings is responsible for the technical and strategic development of the GloPhi Digital Humanities initiative Hildesheim Encyclopedia of Philosophical Sources (HePS), a knowledge graph currently under development that aims to make philosophical sources from around the world accessible through commentaries and linked open data structures. Moreover, Krings serves as the webmaster of GloPhi’s online presence and is responsible for the project’s public outreach, including graphic and web design, photography, and community engagement through channels such as the newsletter and social media accounts.
