Prof. Mohamed Lachhab

Mohamed Lachhab is a full professor at the Faculty of Letters and Human Sciences, Ibn Zohr University in Agadir, Morocco. He previously held a postdoctoral position at the Lichtenberg Kolleg in Göttingen for 20 months starting in 2014. He earned his Doctorat National in Philosophy from Sidi Mohammed Ben Abdellah University, Fez, under the supervision of Professor Azelarabe Lahkim Bennani, receiving the highest distinction (Très honorable). In his PhD, he focused on the paradigm of communicative action in Jürgen Habermas’s critical theory. His research interests cover political philosophy, ethics, the philosophy of human rights, the philosophy of language, African philosophy, modern and contemporary Arabic philosophy, and intercultural philosophy, with a regional focus on North Africa, Sub-Saharan Africa, and the German intellectual context.

Lachhab has authored several books, including Philosophy and Politics in Habermas’s Critical Theory (2006), Philosophy of Language (2019), and Discourse Ethics in Habermas’s Theory of Communicative Action (2013). He has also translated Odo Marquard’s Schwierigkeiten mit der Geschichtsphilosophie into Arabic (2022). His academic contributions include publications in Arabic, German, English, and French, covering topics such as deliberative democracy, communicative action, and feminist resistance in Morocco. He is a member of the editorial board of the Moroccan philosophical journal Alazmina Lehaditha.
