Dr. Arinpe Gbekelolu Adejumo

Àrìnpé Adéjùmọ̀ teaches in the Department of Linguistics and African Languages, University of Ibadan, Ibadan , Nigeria. She specializes in Yorùbá literature , culture and gender studies. She is a playwright , poet , and the author of the play, Afàgò Kẹ́yin Àparò and Ròóore, a collection of poems. She is the author of the first book-length study of dramatic satire in Yorùbá language, Ìṣẹ̀fẹ̀ Nínú Àwọn Eré Onítàn Yorùbá. Her research focuses on the interface between text and intertextuality in contemporary poetic genres as well as the relevance of the traditional Yorùbá philosophical world view as represented in the oral poetic genres to human and social development. She is a member of Nigerian Academy of Letters and Yoruba Studies Association of Nigeria.

She is also co-editor, together with three other leading Yorùbá scholars, of Ọtun Ìmọ̀ Nínú Ìtàn Àròso D.O. Fágúnwà (New Findings in the Novels of D.O. Fágúnwà, 2016). Her recent essays engage questions of gender representation, African shame culture, neo-colonial critique, and cultural dynamism in Yorùbá literary production, with publications in the Yorùbá Studies Review, the journal YORÙBÁ, and Njinga & Sepe: Revista Internacional de Culturas, Línguas Africanas e Brasileiras. She serves on the Scientific Advisory Boards of the Yorùbá Studies Review and the Journal of Nigerian Languages and Literature, and from 2021 to 2025, she served as Deputy Provost (Academic) of the Postgraduate College at the University of Ibadan.
