Fellowship Program

Our Fellowship and Scholars Program is a cornerstone of our commitment to fostering a truly global and inclusive philosophy. Designed to bring together thinkers from diverse cultural, linguistic, and intellectual traditions, this program creates a vibrant and collaborative environment for philosophical research. Providing opportunities for scholars to engage in cross-cultural dialogues and interdisciplinary projects helps to redefine the boundaries of philosophical inquiry and build a community dedicated to global intellectual exchange.

1. A Platform for Diverse Perspectives

The Fellowship and Scholars Program is specifically designed to support researchers from underrepresented regions. We prioritize voices that have historically been excluded from mainstream philosophical discourse, including women philosophers and early-career scholars. This emphasis on diversity ensures that our program reflects a broad range of perspectives and contributes to a more inclusive global dialogue in philosophy.

2. Residency and Collaboration

Fellows are invited to spend extended periods at our center in Hildesheim, where they collaborate with our core research team and other international scholars. These residencies provide a unique opportunity for Fellows to immerse themselves in an intellectually stimulating environment, work on their own projects, and contribute to ongoing research initiatives at GloPhi such as the upcoming multilingual Encyclopedia of philosophical works and practices. Through workshops, seminars, and informal discussions, Fellows engage in meaningful exchanges that enrich their work and expand their horizons.

3. Thematic Focus

Each year, the Fellowship Program aligns with a specific thematic focus that reflects our research priorities, such as global histories of philosophy, intercultural and comparative philosophy, or decolonial and postcolonial thought. Fellows are selected based on their expertise and contributions to these areas, ensuring that their work aligns with the broader goals of our center. This thematic approach fosters a concentrated and impactful exploration of key philosophical issues.

4. Short- and Long-Term Fellowships

To accommodate scholars at different stages of their careers, we offer both short-term and long-term Fellowships. Long-term Fellowships are ideal for early-career researchers seeking to establish themselves in the field, while short-term Fellowships are designed for established scholars who wish to contribute their expertise to specific projects. This flexible structure allows us to create a dynamic and evolving community of thinkers.

5. Networking and Knowledge Sharing

Fellows become part of a global network of scholars dedicated to advancing philosophy as a truly inclusive and interdisciplinary field. Through regular conferences, workshops, and virtual meetings, we ensure that Fellows remain connected to our community even after their residency ends. This ongoing engagement allows for the continuous exchange of ideas and the development of long-term collaborations.

6. Impact Beyond Academia

While the program is deeply rooted in academic research, we encourage Fellows to think beyond the university setting. By engaging with public philosophy, policy discussions, and community initiatives, Fellows have the opportunity to apply their insights to broader societal challenges. This approach aligns with our vision of philosophy as a discipline that is both intellectually rigorous and socially relevant.

Through our Fellowship and Scholars Program, GloPhi is building a global intellectual community that is as diverse as the world it seeks to understand. By supporting scholars from a wide range of backgrounds and fostering meaningful collaborations, we aim to transform philosophy into a truly global and inclusive discipline, capable of addressing the complex challenges of our interconnected world.
