How to get to Hildesheim
Hildesheim is a city of approximately 100.000 inhabitants, located in the northern part of Germany. The nearest international airport is located in Hannover (www.hannover-airport.de/), at about 30km distance. The airport is connected to Hannover central train station by metro system (S-Bahn, line nr. 5).
As indicated on the website, “the S5 Hannover Airport line runs from 3.35 am until 01.05 am every 30 minutes and takes you directly to Terminal C. It takes about 15 minutes. You must buy your ticket (and stamp it if required!) before you get on the train. One-way from Hannover Central Station currently costs about 3.10 euro per person.”
From Hannover central station, take either a regional train (called RE for Regionalexpress) or another S-Bahn, line nr. 4, to Hildesheim Hauptbahnhof (central station). This trip takes about 25-35 minutes, and costs 8 euro.
Other recommendable airports include Düsseldorf, Hamburg and Frankfurt. From there, take the train to Hildesheim central station (you will probably have to change trains in Hannover in that case).
