Supervision

BA and MA supervision

I am supervising BA and MA theses on a broad range of topics within Translation Studies, e.g. variational phenomena in translaion and specialised communictaion including impact of language contrasts, genre and register restriction, mode of communication and translator expertise. You may focus on cohesion (coreference, dicsourse markers, lexical chains), terminology, evaluative constructions, information structure, various kinds of translationese (simplification, shining through or interference and others). Examples of possible BA or MA thesis topics:

  • Error analysis in English-German neural and generative machine translation
  • Comparison of machine-translated texts in specialised communication.
  • Coherence in machine-translted texts.
  • Analysis of translation experience and cognitive effort in translations from English
  • Register variation in specialised communication: corpus-based comparison of registers within a discipline (For instance: instruction manuals vs. argumentative and expository texts in medicine).
  • Register analysis of English and German texts.
  • A corpus-based analysis of discourse markers in English spoken texts and their interpreting into German
  • Traces of source language (shining through) in translation (including specialised translation and audio-visual translation)
  • Compounds in English and German texts
