City Cycling from June 7–27 – The University Team Is in the Running
Thursday, May 28, 2026 - 07:35 CET
Every year, the University of Hildesheim participates in City Cycling as a team. The goal is to rack up as many cycling kilometers as possible over three weeks, thereby raising awareness among local policymakers about the need for better cycling infrastructure.
Getting more people excited about cycling and sending a strong message about climate protection together - that’s what City Cycling is all about. Over the course of three weeks, participants log as many cycling kilometers as possible. The University of Hildesheim is participating with its own team for the sixth year in a row. Participation and the supporting program are once again being organized by the Green Office.
Last year, students, faculty, and staff collectively covered 31,152 kilometers - nearly 4,000 km more than the previous year. This year, there are two new award categories: “Most New Team Members” (compared to the previous year) and “Most Rides Per Team Member.” So what counts most are all those little everyday trips and every new team member!

What is City Cycling?
City Cycling – Cycling for a Better Climate is a nationwide campaign aimed at raising awareness among local policymakers about improving cycling infrastructure and inspiring more people to cycle in order to advance the transportation transition. Over the course of three weeks, municipalities—including cities, towns, and counties—collect as many cycling kilometers as possible. To do this, teams form and compete against each other in a cycling race.
The city of Hildesheim will participate in City Cycling this year from June 7–27. Anyone who lives, works, or belongs to a Hildesheim-based club or institution can join in. Cycling kilometers for the University Team can be collected anywhere.
The University of Hildesheim aims to make the transportation generated by students and staff more climate-friendly in the future and to improve access to all university locations. To this end, a climate protection plan for climate-friendly mobility at the University of Hildesheim was adopted in February 2023 and is currently being implemented.
