Research

The Hildesheim Department of Cultural Policy seeks to produce new findings, results and recommendations for action in order to meet this research desideratum through stand-alone, bilateral or joint international projects.  Based on the University of Hildesheim's research mandate, cultural policy structures and strategies in German, European and international contexts are studied in Bachelor's, Master's and PhD programs and individual research projects. The Department also actively assists and advises public, semi-public and civil society entities. 

A key foundation for research activities is provided by the research ateliers organized with local and international partners. These are generally three-day workshops involving up to 30 experts who work in the practice or conception of the arts, in policy-making or academia. The workshops provide a context and structure for research projects that are relevant to the thematic areas covered by the Hildesheim UNESCO Chair. Every year, three research workshops are held at different locations.

The research activities are accompanied by a series of publications and an international graduate school.
