Wippermann Lecture: What makes jokes funny? Why are some people funnier than others? This lighthearted talk explores the psychology of humor, with a focus on wordplay in English. We start with funny words and ideas, such as why some words simply sound funny and how word puns work. We then turn to funny people, such as how people come up with funny ideas and why some people find it easier to be funny than others. Humor research reminds us that while people are many things, they are certainly playful and creative.
