Funding phases

  1. Translang: 01/2021 to 12/2024
  2. Translang²: 01/2025 to 12/2029

While during the first funding phase (DAAD 'Lehramt International 1.0') central teaching-learning formats on plurilingual sensitivity in teacher education - such as the Teacher Translanguaging Camp and the "Internationales Projektband"  in the subjects German and Mathematics - were established and important transnational university partnerships were concluded, the focus in the second funding phase is now on the following project objectives:

  • Consolidating and promoting international university partnerships on multilingualism sensitivity in teacher education courses, with a particular focus on transnational teaching partnerships
  • Broadening the range of learning opportunities with a transnational focus & multilingualism relevance in teacher education programs
  • Promoting the multilingualism-related & pedagogical-didactic competencies of preservice teachers and teacher educators
  • Increasing the visibility of the internationalization of teacher education, e.g. through accompanying research and OER

The first term of the TRANSLANG - Translanguaging in international teacher education project will enable further developments in two dimensions: Firstly, within the framework of Translang², the transfer of established and new concepts on the subject of multilingualism will also be made possible beyond the philological subjects. Secondly, the curricular learning opportunities related to multilingualism should address all phases of the teacher education programme and ensure holistic internationalization@home by strengthening digital or hybrid transnational courses.
