Zukunfts.ZERTIFIKAT: KI für alle

In a changing world and an uncertain future, the focus is on imparting skills that enable students to critically reflect on and actively shape technological and societal transformation processes. The “Zukunfts.ZERTIFIKAT: KI für alle” certificate program offers students the opportunity to engage in an in-depth, academically grounded exploration of AI as a central issue of our time.

AI Certificate – Experts for the Future

As a dynamic, extracurricular continuing education program, the certificate promotes specialized knowledge in areas that are crucial to the modern workplace and social responsibility. It is continuously refined through ongoing feedback from students and faculty as part of the aLaZukunft project.

Program Start

The Zukunfts.ZERTFIKAT: KI für alle, program will launch in the summer semester of 2027.

Benefits & Objectives

At a time when automated processes are shaping every aspect of life—from the economy to diagnostics—AI proficiency is a critical key skill. The Zukunfts.ZERTIFIKAT: KI für alle certificate program specifically bridges the gap between the growing demand for skilled professionals and the lack of well-founded, interdisciplinary educational offerings.

Contents & Structure

The certificate provides a deep, structured understanding of artificial intelligence that goes beyond the mere use of short-lived software tools. This enables students to develop a strong conceptual foundation for critically evaluating and effectively applying AI technologies across a wide range of fields. Since this field is extremely dynamic, the certificate program has a modular structure. This allows the curriculum to be continuously and flexibly adapted to new innovations.

Level 1: Basic Certificate (Minor) (6 ECTS)

Lecture “Introduction to AI & ML”: An introductory lecture on key AI concepts such as neural networks, objective functions, and training via gradient descent, with a focus on LLMs like Gemini or ChatGPT as examples of generative AI.

Level 2: Advanced Certificate (Major) (10 ECTS)

Lecture “Machine Learning 1” (6 ECTS): Introduction to the areas of linear and non-linear supervised learning as well as unsupervised learning of machine models.

Joint Seminar (4 ECTS): In mixed groups and with the involvement of faculty from other departments, this seminar focuses on literature review and the discussion of AI topics from various domains.

Target audience

The program is interdisciplinary and is designed for students from all disciplines who wish to acquire a solid foundation in AI for their future careers. Depending on the degree program, the certificate is integrated into the curriculum in different ways:

Students in the MASTER Future Analytics: AI & Audio Worlds program complete the fundamentals and the AI Lab as part of their regular curriculum. To earn the certificate, they simply take the final seminar.

Students from other departments can complete both the Basic Certificate and, building on that, the Advanced Certificate as valuable, profile-enhancing additional qualifications alongside their studies.

Procedure

The certificate program is structured in two phases and can be flexibly integrated into each student’s individual academic plan. Starting with the course “Introduction to AI & ML,” participants have the opportunity to deepen their knowledge at any point during their studies when the corresponding modules are offered.
