The Master’s degree programme in Software Engineering (M.Sc.) provides advanced knowledge for the development and design of complex information systems as well as the processing of large amounts of data. The focus is on methodological and algorithmic competences that reflect the current state of research and enable the adaptation of existing models to different application contexts.
A wide range of electives allows the program to be flexibly tailored to individual interests and career goals. The Degree Programme imparts core competencies at both the technical and methodological levels. These enable students to cover the entire spectrum: from highly technical and programming-related aspects through advanced analysis and design techniques to methods and processes for coordinating and implementing large-scale software development projects. This is complemented by a team-oriented work style to continuously develop social skills.
The program builds on existing programming knowledge and aims to bring students up to an engineering level.

Admission Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, information technology, computer engineering, mathematics, or an equivalent degree in a related Degree Programme
- Strong analytical, creative, and logical competences, as well as good programming competences
- Sufficient English proficiency is required for the Degree Programme. This can be demonstrated by a certificate (TOEFL Computer-based Test – min. 61 points, IELTS – min. 6, or an equivalent certificate) or a German high school diploma. If you previously studied in English, a document from the respective university is required certifying that the program was conducted entirely in English. This document must be stamped and signed by the university.

Application for Admission
The Software Engineering (M.Sc.) program currently has limited enrollment, which means that you must apply for admission. Applications and admissions are processed exclusively through the Faculty 4 application portal.
Admission Criteria
Admission is based on the following criteria:
- Overall Grade of your bachelor’s degree (53%),
- Number and grades of Bachelor’s courses in the field of Software Engineering (including mathematics and programming, 35%),
- Previous research activities in the field of Software Engineering (6%)
- previous practical experience in the field of software engineering (6%)
Application Documents
The following documents are required to apply for admission to the international Master’s degree programme in Software Engineering:
- Copy of your Bachelor’s, Master’s, or diploma certificate, including a transcript of grades (all documents must be in English or accompanied by an English translation)
- Language certificate for English (or equivalent)
- Resume
- If the Bachelor’s degree was earned in one of the following countries, please upload the APS certificate in one of the sections for English language certificates (we do not yet have a separate section for the APS certificate).
- China (excluding Hong Kong and Macau)
- Vietnam

Once you have received your admission letter, there are just a few steps left to complete your enrollment. The letter contains all the important information, including the enrollment deadline, a list of required documents, bank account details for paying the semester tuition, and contact information for any questions you may have. Important: You must include your application number in all correspondence.

Course Structure and Course Catalogue
The two-year Master's degree course in Software Engineering comprises four semesters with a total of 120 credit points (CP). In terms of content, the course is divided into a methodological core area (65%), an application area (10%) and a Master's thesis (25%). The course structure varies depending on whether the course begins in the summer or winter term. Please note: "Method Specialization" and "Application" are placeholders where you can choose from the available course catalogue according to your interests.
