Student Loans
Note:
The following list of financing options is not exhaustive and is provided for general information purposes only. For specific questions about individual loans and their terms, please contact the respective lender directly. Educational loan
The loan program initiated by the federal government offers students the opportunity to take out a low-interest loan during the advanced stages of their studies. Both undergraduate students who have completed their first year of study and students enrolled in a consecutive master’s or postgraduate program can use the educational loan as a source of financial assistance. A maximum loan amount of 7,200 euros can be applied for, which is paid out in monthly installments of either 100 euros, 200 euros, or 300 euros. It is possible to combine the education loan with other forms of financing—such as BAföG. However, the education loan is granted regardless of income or assets.
All information can be found on the Federal Office of Administration’s website
Student loans
Undergraduate students or those enrolled in a consecutive master’s program can apply for a loan that is not based on income or assets, with monthly grants ranging from 100 to 650 euros. Nationwide, KfW Development Bank, Deutsche Bank, Deutsche Kreditbank (DKB), and Dresdner Bank offer such loans; other financial institutions provide them on a state, regional, or local basis. You should carefully review the offers and compare the terms! Also, be sure to find out the estimated total repayment amount, as a significant loan debt can accumulate depending on the monthly disbursement amount.
