Note
All documents should be submitted as PDFs and in exceptional cases as JPEGs. Modifiable file formats (e.g.: .doc, .docx, .pages) will not be accepted and will be rated as not being formally correct.
Necessary Documents for the Application
Letter of Motivation
The length of the letter of motivation is limited to one DIN A4 page.
It is only necessary to include one letter of motivation with your application, even if you are applying for two scholarship programs at the same time. The letter should highlight your personal interest in the respective scholarship programm and refer to your unique qualities that qualify you for for a scholarship program. Avoid sentence building blocks and anything that could refer to a "serial standard letter".
Its content should follow a classic structure. However, certain formalities such as the adress of the sender and recipient can be omitted.
- Salutation; this can generally be adressed to the "members of the scholarship committee"
- Reason for writing, reference to the scholarship you are interested in
- Why you should receive a scholarship: your achievements during your studies, voluntary work, family/personal/social situation, skills, experience
- Motivation: The contribution you want to make
- Thanks and greetings
- Date and signature
Please do not repeat the stages from your CV in your letter of motivation. Instead, pursue a targeted argumentation of benefits. Why are you the best possible candidate for a scholarship?
Curriculum Vitae
The CV should be submitted in tabular form.
Only mention those stations in your CV that seem relevant to your scholarship application and try to keep it short. A separate description of your voluntary work/university commitments can be particularly useful for your scholarship application.
Enrolment Certificate
The enrolment certificate can be downloaded through the Portal für Lehre und Studium (PLuS).
In case of support through a scholarship, three enrolment certificates must be submitted typically.
During the application process:
- enrolment certificate for the summer term 2025; must be submitted with the application (if you are already enrolled at the University of Hildesheim; all others, see the grey box at the bottom)
- enrolment certificate for the winter term 2025/26; if not yet available at the time of application, it must be submitted immediatly and unrequested as soon as it is available
In case of support:
- enrolment certificate for the summer term 2026
For data protection reasons, the Scholarship Office does not have access to documents from the Admissions Office, which is why we directly require the certificates from you.
If you are not (yet) enrolled at the University of Hildesheim at the time of application, please indicate this in your application and submit your enrolment certificate immediately and unrequested as soon as it is available. No support will be granted without an enrolment certificate.
Transcript of Records (ToR)
The Transcript of Records (ToR) can be downloaded from the LSF.
The ToR shows your achievements to date as well as the usually automatically calculated grade. The grade and the achieved credit points are one of the award criteria for all scholarship programs. The transcript should be downloaded on the day of application and does not need to be signed by the examination office.
Students in their first semester that have no achievements entered in their ToR yet, should still submit their "empty" transcript as the application is not formally correct otherwise.
Applicants who are not yet studying at the University of Hildesheim should submit their latest academic record. This can be a transcript from another university or a degree certificate. It is important that it contains a grade that can be used to evaluate the academic performance.
Since the 2023/24 funding period, it is no longer possible to submit an updated transcript later on.
Higher Education Entrance Qualification
The higher education entrance qualification (Hochschulzugangsberechtigung/HZB) is the document you need to study at German universities.
For your application you must submit a digital copy of your respective document (high school diploma (Abitur), or similar). The copy does not have to be notarized.
Verification for Indicated Voluntary Work/Commitments
Indicated commitment must be verified accordingly.
The documents should not be older than two years.
Evaluation of Eligibility for Support
Evaluations including a statement on elegibility for support can influence the assessment.
With the statutes on the awarding of scholarships since the 2023/24 funding period, the requirement to submit a "short report" (Kurzgutachten) no longer applies.
From the 2025/26 application period onwards, corresponding evaluations can be submitted electronically via an online form. Evaluations can be provided by university instructors or PhD-level staff members at the University of Hildesheim. These evaluations are electronically submitted to the Scholarship Office and attached to the application. Applicants will not receive copies.
You can find the online form (during the application period) here. It can be accessed with staff login information in the university intranet. External evaluators (e.g., from other universities) may submit assessments as PDFs to stipend(at)uni-hildesheim.de. All evaluations must be received within the application period and must clearly identify the respective applicant. If these criteria are not met, the evaluation cannot be considered.
Application for Extension of the Maximum Funding Period
According to § 9 of the Scholarship Regulations, the maximum funding period may be extended under certain conditions.
Starting with the 2025/26 application period, an official request form must be submitted as part of the application process. You can download the appropriate template from the application portal.
Other Credentials
You can provide any information you would like to include in your application with appropriate credentials.
This includes work/internship references, degrees/diplomas, awards, etc. We recommend that you support the most relevant and recent (max. two years old) information with respective documents as long as it relates to (at least) one of the three award criteria (academic achievements, (voluntary) commitment, family background).

Deutschlandstipendium (German public-private scholarship)
The Deutschlandstipendium is awarded to particularly high-achieving students at the Foundation University of Hildesheim.
Scholarship holders are supported with 300 euros per month. The Deutschlandstipendium is financed in equal parts by the federal government and private donors.
Modelled after the principle of public-private partnership, businesses, foundations or private individuals sponsor young talent with a pledge of 150 euros per month. The Federal Government matches this amount with another 150 euros.
In addition to the financial support, the scholarship holders can take part in the scholarship support programme within the framework of the Minerva College.
Further information on the Deutschlandstipendium can be found in the statutes on the awarding of scholarships and at the following link: Deutschlandstipendium.
Deutschlandstipendien Funding period 2026/2026
For the 2025/2026 funding period, around 120 Deutschlandstipenden scholarships are expected to be awarded.
Some of these scholarships are for Master's students in the final phase of their studies in particular, but also for student teachers. You can find more information below.
In principle, however, we would like to encourage all students to apply for a scholarship.
It is also possible to submit an application if your studies at the University of Hildesheim do not begin until the winter term 2025/2026.
Deutschlandstipendien from the E.W. Kuhlmann Foundation for Master's students in the final phase of their studies
Students who are in their 3rd and 4th Master's semester during the 2025/26 funding period and who are planning their Master's thesis for the 2025 summer semester can apply for one of the 30 Deutschlandstipendien offered by the E.W. Kuhlmann Foundation. Please use the regular application portal and indicate your expected degree in the field provided in your application. This will increase your chances, but you will still take part in the ‘normal’ selection process.
Academic Performance
The assessment of the academic performance is based on the credit points achieved so far and the preliminary interim grade from the submitted Transcript of Records. If no Transcript of Records is available for the current degree programme, grades and credit points are taken from the previous degree programme.
In the case of the Deutschlandstipendium, 75% of the academic achievements are included in the overall evaluation.
In the case of the Lore Auerbach Scholarship, 50% of the academic achievements are included in the overall evaluation.
