Researcher in Deep Learning and Computer Vision (m/f/d)

The newly established research group “Data Science” at the Institute of Computer Science of the University of Hildesheim offers a full-time research position with a duration of up to three years, subject to the availability of funding, in the area of deep learning and computer vision.
The position is offered within the interdisciplinary EU-project “Sustainable intensification of food production through resilient farming systems in West & North Africa” (SustInAfrica). Responsibilities within the project include to work on applied computer vision tasks in agricultural settings, such as building a smart insect monitoring system based on a computer vision analysis of insects captured in insect traps. To solve these tasks, the candidate is expected to apply state-of-the-art machine learning and computer vision techniques, and develop novel techniques where appropriate.
The Department of Computer Science at the University of Hildesheim has a strong focus on research and teaching in artificial intelligence, machine learning and software engineering. It features an International Master Program in Data Analytics that attracts outstanding students from all over the world. Hildesheim is a beautiful town with UNESCO World Heritage Sites and can also easily be reached from Hanover by a metro rail link.

We are looking for applicants that either have a master degree in Computer Science, Data Science, or Mathematics with strong prior knowledge of machine learning or a Ph.D. degree in machine learning or computer vision. Applicants will have the opportunity to pursue a Ph.D. degree during their employment.
Applicants are expected to have strong analytical and programming skills. They should be able to pursue research independently. Fluency in written and spoken English is required for the position.
