The new project ReGaP (Reduce and Gain in Production), funded by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF), focuses on energy optimization in manufacturing by leveraging AI and Industrial IoT (IIoT). ReGaP is a DATIpilot innovation community, a novel form of funding that supports the transfer of knowledge from research into practice. In this context, ReGaP aims to advance methods, technologies, and processes for more energy-efficient production through an co-creative open innovation approach.

ReGaP is driven by a management project and multiple dynamic community projects, with the first project, "Platform goes Energy", launched in March 2025. “Platform goes Energy” aims at preparing the technological core of the project to support the community in a flexible and customized development of intelligent energy optimization solutions. The technological core of ReGaP is the open-source IIoT platform oktoflow, which facilitates the integration of diverse devices and data sources based on low code techniques (initially developed in the IIP-Ecosphere project).

The ReGaP community kickoff event on March 19, 2025, brought together key industry players, including (keynotes by) PHOENIX CONTACT and DMG Mori, for expert talks, workshops, and networking opportunities. The Software System Engineering (SSE) group, alongside L3S research center, the Institut für Fertigungstechnik und Werkzeugmaschinen (IFW), and hannoverimpuls GmbH, are partners in the ReGaP management project and play a key role in shaping the ReGaP community as well as developing jointly developing energy applications and the underlying the innovation core.
