Uni Wireless Network
Connect to the university wireless network: configuration
The settings necessary to connect to the Hildesheim University Eduroam wireless network may differ from those of other institutions participating in the Eduroam system. If you have trouble connecting when you are at a different institution/location, please consult the on-site IT services there.
Eduroam: UNI wireless network as part of a global network
Hildesheim University provides a WLAN-based wireless network embedded in the global Eduroam consortium. Thus the university user account enables our users access to the wireless networks of all partners of the eduroam consortium at many sites in Germany, Europe and worldwide. Eduroam wireless access is available in more than 100 countries worldwide.

Requirements
To use the wireless network at Hildesheim University, users need a WLAN-enabled device and a valid user account at the university.
Note
The easyroam app generates a certificate-based eduroam configuration that is valid for six months. After that, a new installation of the certificates via app is necessary.
- Further information on easyroam can be found on the DFN website.
Configuration
Android easyroam
Delete the current eduroam profile in the WLAN settings and, if available, also uninstall the geteduroam app.
1. Download and install the easyroam app from the Google Play Store.
2. Launch the easyroam app.
Please note: On some devices, after starting the easyroam app, users are asked whether the easyroam app should be allowed to control the WLAN. Without permission for the easyroam app to control the WLAN, the easyroam app cannot install any easyroam profiles for eduroam and therefore the easyroam app will only function to a limited extent on these devices. In the system settings of many devices in the menu "App ..." ⇒ Advanced (default apps, permission manager, ...) ⇒ Special app access ⇒ WLAN control ⇒ easyroam "App may control WLAN" should be enabled. Usually as mentioned before, the option is queried when starting the easyroam app, on some devices, e.g. on ANDROID 10/11 the option is not queried but set automatically. System message like this option query can be easily overlooked on some devices. Therefore please pay attention to system messages.
3. There are two ways to login to easyroam "Login through Website" or "Login using QR-Code". In case of "Login through Website" the registration via WAYF (Where Are You From) and the university mail address is required see point 4.
If you have your laptop or a desktop device nearby, you can use these devices to log in to easyroam via the portal www.easyroam.de in the browser and generate a QR code (valid for 5 minutes), which you can then scan in the easyroam app on the ANDROID device (with camera). In this case, skip point 4. and install the profile as indicated in point 5.
7. A system check box appears, which is acknowledged with "Allow".
Please note: On ANDROID 10 devices, the system check box is not immediately shown on the display. However, it is indicated at the top of the display in the header that there was a system message for the easyroam app. Unfortunately, this is easily overlooked. Simply display the system message and confirm with "Allow". The system check box, as shown in the graphic above, is only displayed as of ANDROID 11.
8. The validity period of the pseudo certificate is displayed in green font.
Please be patient, on some devices it takes a little while until the eayroam configuration is established on the device. As soon as the configuration is completed by the operating system via easyroam, the device usually connects to eduroam automatically. If it takes too long, simply restart the device. Devices that support WLAN Suggestion correctly usually display the successful installation of the profiles. see the following graphics.
iOS / iPadOS easyroam

If you have your laptop or a desktop device nearby, you can use these devices to log in to easyroam via the portal www.easyroam.de in the browser and generate a QR code (valid for 5 minutes), which you can then scan in the easyroam app on your iOS device. In this case, skip point 4. and install the profile as indicated in point 5.

If old eduroam WLAN profiles in the network settings that were not installed with easyroam are still on the system, please be sure to delete them before using easyroam. see "System Preferences/System Settings" and Profiles (Settings - General - VPN & Device management). Old profiles that were installed with easyroam do not need to be deleted beforehand.
