VPN for Windows
Two files are needed in preparation of installing the OpenVPN client.
- the OpenVPN client itself can be downloaded via this link (for Windows 10); or this link (for Windows 7 and 8)
- your user profile can be found here; after logging in using your university account and password
Note: Login to this site in this way only works from within the university network; from outside the network you need an additional login name and password which can be obtained by calling university IT support under the following numbers:
05121 883 92888 or 05121 883 92890.
Change into your Downloads directory and double click the file "openvpn-install-...exe". Follow the installation instructions, keep the recommended default settings.
Then, start the OpenVPN client from your desktop or start menu link or, alternatively, restart your computer; OpenVPN will automatically start with the system.
After starting, the OpenVPN icon will be displayed in your system tray in the lower right corner of the screen. Right-click the icon, choose Import file, and choose the "client.ovpn" file downloaded in the previous step.
To connect to the university VPN, right-click the OpenVPN icon in the system tray and choose the Connect entry.
Enter your university username and password and click OK. If you set the checkmark to store your login data, you will not have to enter them in future connection attempts.
The client icon changes to yellow, then green after successfull connecting.
