eduVPN-Wireguard on Windows devices

Please note: The initial setup of the eduVPN client and the connection via eduVPN client, will only work if your device is located in Germany.

If you are planning a trip abroad / semester abroad and need to use the VPN connection from there, please follow this link to the corresponding instructions. The setup must be done before departure or with existing OpenVPN connection (old UNI-VPN).

Note: When the VPN connection is active, local data traffic in your network is blocked. You will then not be able to use your network printer, for example.

1. If you don't already have it, download and install the eduVPN app.
If eduVPN is already installed, make sure you are using at least version 3.0, otherwise, you will not be able to connect to the Uni-VPN.

2. Start the eduVPN app. If you have already used eduVPN to connect to the old UNI-VPN, please delete the existing profile "Universität Hildesheim" by right-clicking the entry and selecting "Forget".

If you do not see the entry even though the profile already exists, your eduVPN client is probably connected. End the connection by flipping the switch, then click the arrow in the upper left corner, and then delete the profile as described.

3. Enter "hilde" in the search field and select the entry "Universität Hildesheim".

4. Now a browser tab should open and show the login page of eduvpn.uni-hildesheim.de. Log in here with your UNI account and the corresponding password.

5. After login, please click the "Approve" button.

6. Back to the eduVPN app: The VPN connection should already be established and can be closed again by flipping the switch if it is not needed.

7. To connect from now on, open the app and click on the entry "Universität of Hildesheim".
