Congratulations, Herr Kuhlmann!

Edmund Kuhlmann, founder of the E.W. Kuhlmann Foundation and loyal supporter of the University of Hildesheim, turned 94 in the last few days. His secret recipe for old age is to pursue work that fills you with joy and to see it as an elixir of life, because joy is life-enhancing. "He who rests, rusts. If you rust, you die soon." Mr. Kuhlmann has never rested, as his eventful life testifies.
Born in Wilhelmshaven in 1930, he spent his school years in Hamburg. He did not complete regular high school because the war and the bombing of his school intervened. While working as a court clerk, he attended evening secondary school to complete his Abitur. This was followed by a degree in economics.

Interview with donor
Florian Störig

You work in the IT center at the University of Hildesheim and have always helped us out with technical problems in fundraising. How did you get into IT?

Through my father who was already working in IT at the time. We had a PC very early on. At the same time, it was clear that I would never be able to work in a skilled trade due to my physical limitations.
After finishing school and Fachgymnasium in IT, I started my education at the University of Hildesheim - and now, over 20 years later, I'm still there.

Interview with the Project manager at the Lower Saxony Lotto-Sport-Stiftung, Felek Güler

You work as a project manager at the Lower Saxony Lotto-Sport-Stiftung, which participates in 5 Deutschlandstipendien every year. You previously studied International Communication and Translation in the Bachelor's program and Linguistics and Intercultural Communication in the Master's program at the University of Hildesheim. How did you come to work for the Lower Saxony Lotto-Sport-Stiftung?

By a happy coincidence. I also worked in Friend- & Fundraising at the University of Hildesheim during (and after) my studies. M. Langer had forwarded me the job advertisement for the position at the Lower Saxony Lotto-Sport-Stiftung. The job was very interesting, so I applied. On a Tuesday, I received an invitation for an interview on Thursday, and less than two hours after the interview, I had already been accepted (fun fact: the explanation of offside rules scored points). I started in February 2020 and have been very happy with the meaningful work and the employer since day one.

Interview with Lore-Auerbach-Scholar Larissa Martins Costa Passos Moreira

You are studying International Information Management. What do you find particularly appealing about this degree program?

The opportunity to study two subjects (data and culture) that don't seem to have much in common at first glance, but are actually strongly connected. The cultural studies courses also made an impression on me, sparked my interest in semiotic analysis, and were particularly important for my own experience as an immigrant/international student abroad.
