Senate Research Ethics Committee

In recent years, ethical issues in the context of research have been the subject of intense debate, leading many professional associations and research institutions to issue ethical guidelines and standards. As a result of this debate, researchers are increasingly being asked to provide ethics statements and opinions, for example when applying for research projects or publishing research findings.

The Senate Research Ethics Committee provides a platform for academic and ethical debate at the University of Hildesheim. It advises researchers on ethical issues and, upon application, issues ethics statements. It works alongside the Faculty 1 (Educational & Social Sciences) Research Ethics Committee. The two committees have complementary remits, with the Faculty 1 committee reviewing and supporting projects based in Faculty 1.

Ethics statements and opinions

The Senate Research Ethics Committee issues ethics opinions, for example in relation to research proposals and the publication of research findings. It acts upon application by a researcher. If you require an ethics statement or ethics opinion, please contact the committee's coordination.

Rules of Procedure

In June 2018, the University Senate adopted the Commission’s Rules of Procedure, setting out its composition, remit and procedures.
