The new ZEIT Study Guide 2026/2027, featuring the results of the latest CHE university rankings, is out, and the Department of Mathematics, Natural Sciences, Economics & Computer Science at the University of Hildesheim has every reason to celebrate. Two degree programs - Economics (Economics Plus) and Business Informatics at the bachelor’s level - have achieved outstanding results and clearly rank among the top programs in a nationwide comparison.

The CHE University Ranking is considered the most comprehensive and nuanced comparison of universities in the German-speaking world. It has been published exclusively in the ZEIT Studienführer and on the HeyStudium platform for more than twenty years and compares more than 10,000 degree programs. For the current 2026/27 edition, approximately 35,000 students at 265 universities were surveyed about their academic experiences. The areas evaluated included law, economics, business informatics, and industrial engineering. The ranking focuses on student evaluations, supplemented by data on academic programs, teaching, and facilities.

Economics: Economics Plus – Top Tier in 8 of 11 Criteria

The Economics Plus program demonstrates a strong overall performance in the 2026 CHE University Ranking. In eight of the eleven criteria evaluated, the program ranks among the top group in a Germany-wide comparison. Among other aspects, the support provided at the start of studies, the practical orientation, and the personal guidance of students were rated particularly positively. “Especially for a comparatively small university like ours without a large economics department, these results send a strong signal! For many years, Wirtschaft Plus has deliberately pursued its own path: small learning groups, close supervision, interdisciplinary compatibility, and a strong focus on practical application and transfer. We are very pleased that this profile is now also becoming visible in a nationwide comparison,” emphasizes Prof. Dr. Athanassios Pitsoulis, program director of Wirtschaft Plus.

Business Informatics: Ranked 8th out of 47 in Germany-wide Bachelor’s programs

Business Informatics performs particularly well in the standard ranking on the CHE website. In the bachelor’s category, the University of Hildesheim ranks 8th out of 47 evaluated universities, placing it two spots ahead of the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT), which is among Germany’s most renowned technical universities. The result also delights Prof. Dr. Julia Rieck, Dean of the School of Mathematics, Natural Sciences, Economics & Computer Science: “This result fills us with pride and confirms the work we do every day at the school: excellent teaching, close relationships with our students, and an education that not only provides professional qualifications but also shapes students personally. Size is not an indicator of quality. It’s wonderful that students recognize this development and express it in their evaluations.”
