The university offers a wide range of degree programmes. These are divided into four faculties:

Faculty 1: Education & Social Sciences

Faculty 2: Cultural Studies and Aesthetic Communication

Faculty 3: Language and Information Sciences

Faculty 4: Mathematics, Natural Sciences, Economics & Computer Science

Motivation scholarship

In order to (co-)finance your studies in Germany, you can apply for the so-called motivation scholarship.

This includes the following benefits:

  • 500 € per month for a period of 6 months
  • Possible extension by 6 months after renewed application
  • Support from mentors for intercultural, administrative, social and professional issues

Selection Criteria

The selection criteria are as follows:

  • Sufficient language skills (usually: C1 according to CEFR)
  • Academic performance
  • Significance of the letter of motivation (0.5 page max.)
  • Social and intercultural commitment
  • Cases of hardship (chronic/mental/physical illness, disability and special life circumstances) or interested parties with "fewer opportunities" will be considered.

These are only the selection criteria for the motivation scholarship. In order to be able to study at the University of Hildesheim or the HAWK University of Applied Sciences and Arts, additional selection criteria may apply. Documents

The following documents must be submitted for an application:

  • Application form
  • Letter of motivation (½ to 1 page)
  • Curriculum vitae
  • Proof of academic achievements
  • Proof of language skills (B2 according to CEFR for the taster programme; usually C1 according to CEFRfor the degree programme)
  • Proof of social and/or intercultural commitment if applicable
  • Letter of recommendation or assessment from the PASCH school or similar if applicable
  • Notification of a case of hardship
  • Admission from the University of Hildesheim or HAWK University of Applied Sciences and Arts for the Taster Study Programme and the motivation

Those interested in studying at the University of Hildesheim or the HAWK University of Applied Sciences and Arts will be given the opportunity to come to Germany for a one-week taster programme.

Possible programme items of the taster course are:

  • Interdisciplinary seminars and lectures (tailored to the interests of the participants)
  • Workshops on intercultural skills (e.g. on study culture or diversity)
  • Workshops on academic work or career prospects in Germany
  • Information events with tips on study orientation and application
  • Getting to know the University of Hildesheim and the HAWK University
  • Leisure activities: guided city tours, museum and/or theatre visits, nature hikes, short excursions

The University of Hildesheim and the HAWK maintain close relationships with the school partnerships. Once a year, they are represented at university fairs and visit partner schools.

Network of German schools abroad and universities in South Lower Saxony – HAWK and University of Hildesheim

BIDS is a programme offered by the German Academic Exchange Service DAAD (Deutscher Akademischer Austauschdienst). It enables German universities to network with schools abroad and offers pupils the opportunity to study in Germany. Within the BIDS programme, there is the Network of German schools abroad and universities in South Lower Saxony – HAWK and University of Hildesheim.
