Certificate for Intercultural Communication and Competence (CICC)
CICC-Components
The CICC is complete when you fulfill all three components and reach at least 100%:
Elective component: Intercultural experience (from 10%)
Intercultural experience: You can collect intercultural experiences during semesters abroad or through language courses in and outside of Germany. These experiences can be counted towards the intercultural experience component of the CICC.
- Studying abroad for at least 3 months (50%)
- Internship abroad for at least 2 months (50%)
- Participating in the language learning project for refugee children and teenagers (30%)
- Participating in the Internationale Schreibpartnerschaften (international writing partnerships) for 1 semester (15%)
- Participating in the Sprachtandem (language tandem) for 1 semester (15%)
- Language course abroad (20-30h = 15%)
- Language course in Germany (20-30h = 10%)
- Comparable experiences, after consultation with the certificate coordinator
Mandatory component: Intercultural reflection (min. 50%)
Intercultural reflection: Experiences and commitments are reflected upon in intercultural training modules. These modules are offered by the International Office within the Fachübergreifende Schlüsselkompetenzen (interdisciplinary key competencies).
- Participating in at least one two-day intercultural workshop or four sessions of the intercultural short series (25%), reflection of the workshops
- Completing a portfolio for intercultural self-reflection. The PICC (portfolio for intercultural communication and competence) is ideally worked on during the semester abroad, but it can also be completed afterwards. (25%)
Mandatory component: Intercultural commitment (min. 10%)
Intercultural commitment: Getting involved in supporting international students, contributing to internationally or interculturally oriented student initiatives or presenting the University of Hildesheim at a partner university during a semester abroad all count towards the intercultural commitment component.
- Participating in Erasmus Student Network (ESN-Hildesheim) for 1 Semester (20%)
- Engagement as a peer tutor at go for IQ for 1 Semester (30%)
- Supporting an international student in the Buddy-Programm for 1 semester (25%)
- Engagement in the project DAWID (25%)
- Contributing to the Go Out Day and info events of the International Office (10%)
- Presenting the University of Hildesheim at a partner university abroad (10%)
- Blog about experiences abroad for publication on the International Office website (10%)
- Comparable forms of commitment, after consultation with the certificate coordinator
