Sustainability, Inclusion and Diversity

Sustainability, Inclusion, and Diversity

The Erasmus+ Sustainability priority focuses on raising participants’ awareness of sustainability, climate change, and environmental protection—particularly the ecological footprint caused by mobility.

Financial incentives, such as travel days and higher travel allowances for eco-friendly travel, are intended to increase the use of sustainable modes of transportation and reduce the ecological footprint of the Erasmus+ program.

Erasmus+ prioritizes inclusion and diversity to facilitate access to international mobility for people with fewer opportunities—including those with disabilities, health limitations, or social barriers. Additional funding, low-barrier formats, and advisory services (such as those available at inclusivemobility.eu) are designed to promote equal opportunities.

Inclusion & Diversity

By removing potential barriers, the goal is to improve participants’ access to study abroad programs. To this end, specific measures have been introduced that address the issue at various levels.

Financial Measures:

Depending on the type of mobility, participants with fewer opportunities may be eligible for additional financial support in the form of monthly supplements, travel expense subsidies, or coverage of actual costs for their stay and preparatory travel.

Target groups:

  • Students and higher education staff with a disability or chronic illness
  • Students and university staff who are undertaking their study abroad program with children
  • Students from non-academic family backgrounds
