XXV World Congress of Philosophy

Thursday, 01. August 2024 um 09:00 Uhr

Rome - August 1st to 8th, 2024

At the XXV World Congress of Philosophy held in Rome from August 1st to 8th, 2024, Rolf Elberfeld, Anke Graness, Lara Honfer, Francesca Greco and Namita Herzl organized several panels under the framework of the Koselleck-Project "Histories of Philosophies in a Global Perspective."

These panels included "On the Future of Global Histories of Philosophy," "New Approaches in the Historiography of Philosophy: The Status of Oral Traditions," and "Intercultural Feminist Philosophy: Bridging Global Perspectives." The idea was to explore and challenge traditional boundaries of philosophical historiography, particularly in how it integrates diverse cultural perspectives, oral traditions, and feminist thought into a more inclusive and globally representative narrative. Notably, Anke Graness was also nominated to be part of the Fédération Internationale des Sociétés de Philosophie (FISP) Steering Committee, underscoring her significant contributions to the field and her leadership in promoting a global approach to philosophical studies.

Within the session, we addressed the need for philosophy to transform its traditional Eurocentric boundaries and embrace a global perspective. These discussions aimed to dismantle the hegemonic structures that have historically marginalized non-Western, oral, and feminist philosophical contributions. The outcomes of these panels highlighted the importance of integrating diverse voices and methodologies into the historiography of philosophy, which not only enriches the discipline but also fosters greater intercultural understanding and collaboration. The discussions generated a call for continued efforts in expanding the scope of philosophical inquiry, making it more inclusive and representative of the plurality of human thought.
