Thesis and Application Form
1. Topics and Supervision
We supervise both internal and external Bachelor's and Master's theses whose topics are related to the department's main teaching and research areas.
Internal theses typically address current research questions being pursued by our department members. Suitable topics are developed in consultation with interested students. Students are also welcome to propose their own topics and areas of interest.
External theses are developed in collaboration with companies and non-university research institutions. Students may propose topics in consultation with the company or institution. To have your proposal reviewed for supervision by our department, please submit a one-page description of the research question.
A prerequisite for supervision of a thesis is generally that the student has successfully completed at least one course offered by the department in their respective degree program, worth 6 credits. If not yet completed, proof of the “License for Scientific Work” must also be provided before beginning the thesis.
Inquiries are welcome at any time; there are no fixed deadlines to observe.

2. Application
If you are interested in writing your thesis with us, please fill out the application form and send it together with a current transcript of records via email to: abschlussarbeit(at)bwl.uni-hildesheim.de.
Applications can only be submitted through this channel. Please refrain from contacting individual department staff members directly.
After internal coordination within the working group, you will usually receive feedback within one to two weeks.
3. Guidelines, Templates, and Tools
The BWOR department provides various resources for writing academic papers.
On the page “Procedure for Writing Academic Papers,” you will find guidance on academic writing as well as recommendations for the structure and formatting of your paper.
Document templates for theses and the colloquium are available on our templates page.
A tool for developing and narrowing down a topic for a thesis is provided by the Thesis Designer from the ProXLab project at the University of Hildesheim.
