Dr Cecilia Durojaye Pruefer is a Research Associate and a Habilitation candidate at the Institute for Cultural Policy. She completed her Bachelor's and Master's degrees at the University of Lagos in Nigeria, where she focused on Music Performance and Music Education, respectively. She obtained her PhD in 2019 at the University of Cape Town, South Africa where she focused on evoked responses and indigenous knowledge systems in the performance practices of Nigerian talking drum ensembles. The project won the African Studies Association’s best African-based dissertation award in 2020. Since 2019, she has been a member of the Journal of Musical Arts in Africa’s list of reviewers and became a member of the Editorial Board of the Yoruba Music Research Journal in 2023. She currently works on the BMBF-funded project: Kulturelle Selbstversorgung: Das Recht junger Menschen auf kulturelle (Selbst)Bildung
