Bachelor Plus-programme
A study programme with an international focus
Are you interested in the international comparison of cultural policy models or the role of art and culture in social transformation processes or international artistic co-productions as well as international concepts of cultural mediation, cultural organisation and cultural management? Since 2014, the UNESCO Chair at the Institute for Cultural Policy has been coordinating an exciting internationally oriented study programme that is intensively supported by us.
Bachelor's students of Cultural Studies and Artistic Practice (Kulturwissenschaften und künstlerische Praxis) who are interested in looking at their study contexts from an international comparative perspective (including topics such as decolonisation, cultural diversity, fair cooperation and fair culture, etc.) can develop and sharpen an internationally oriented profile through the study option. The application for the curriculum option takes place in the 2nd semester, i.e. after starting the degree programme in Cultural Studies and Artistic Practice in Hildesheim.
This film and the testimonials of former students provide an insight into the course.
Structure of the study programme
The Bachelor Plus programme comprises a standard period of study of 8 semesters (instead of 6 semesters in the regular Bachelor's programme) and, in addition to the continuation of studies in cultural studies and artistic practice, includes an internationalised curriculum at the University of Hildesheim and a two-semester phase abroad at the partner university in the 5th and 6th semesters. The internationalised curriculum is completed from the 3rd semester and includes attending special Bachelor Plus colloquia, which are dedicated to the subject-specific and intercultural preparation and follow-up of the stay abroad, as well as attending at least one course per semester with an international cultural-political focus and - depending on the individual level of knowledge - attending language courses. Starting in the 3rd semester, students prepare for their stay in a partner country in the 5th and 6th semesters.
You are free to choose the partner countries and partner universities and can also change them again after a successful application. Our Erasmus partner universities provide orientation (+ further list from the international office + collection of links to the specific universities and degree programmes). Previous Bachelor Plus students have been to France, Lithuania, Mexico, Serbia, South Africa, Turkey or Morocco, for example. We are happy to put you in touch with our returnees so that you can benefit from their experiences.
During your time abroad, you will not only study at your partner university, but also complete a pre-vocational internship in the field of culture. You can focus on your studies (i.e. two semesters of study + a short internship) or balance your studies and internship (i.e. one semester of study + one semester of internship). There are different recommendations depending on the partner country.
The Bachelor's thesis, in which students of the Bachelor Plus study option deal intensively with a cultural-political and artistic subject with international relevance, rounds off their focussed Bachelor's degree programme.
At the Institute for Cultural Policy, the study option is supervised by programme director Prof. Dr. Julius Heinicke and programme officer Dr. Daniel Gad, who is available to answer your questions at kupo-international(at)uni-hildesheim.de.
