Doing Body Politics - Uses of performative and aesthetic strategies in curatorial practices (WT)
Curatorial practice is realized primarily in three ways: through language, programmatically, and spatially. The exhibition as a manifestation of curatorial work, as a complex of content conception and organization, is usually studied in terms of its visibility and thus in relation to the exhibited artworks and their encounter. By way of example, three curatorial positions will be examined that exhibit an explicit relationship to aesthetic practices, more specifically to poetry/fiction (linguistic, text-based), choreography/installation (spatial), and performance (programmatic).
Through this shift from a contextualizing, preserving to a "performative" practice (as I would like to call it for now), those structures through which meaning, and knowledge are to be produced in exhibitions and their contexts are critically questioned. The focus of the analysis is the changed addressing of the body. The discourse on the aesthetic experience of the receiving subjects is thus expanded, according to my thesis, to include the question of the body politics in which both the receiving and the represented, thematized, performed bodies are or were involved. This raises the question of whether the newly generated forms of experience are oriented toward a subjective individual experience or rather toward a communal, collective experience of a (to use Rebentisch's term) constantly reconstituting we.
