Dr. Christopher Mtaku

Local Coordinator of the SDG Graduate School ‘Performing Sustainability: Cultures and Development in West Africa’

Christopher Yusufu Mtaku is a Cultural Anthropologist and Ethnomusicologist. He has been employed at the University of Maiduguri, Nigeria since 1989, and is currently a Senior Lecturer and Head of the Department of Visual and Performing Arts. He holds a B.A. in Creative Arts and M.Sc. in Cultural Anthropology from the University of Maiduguri, and a PhD in Ethnomusicology from the University of Hildesheim, Germany. He has been a long-time Coordinator of the Borno Music Documentation Project (BMDP) and is the Local Coordinator of the SDG Graduate School ‘Performing Sustainability: Cultures and Development in West Africa’. His research interests are music and rituals. He has several articles to his credit in both national and international journals.
