Cultural Identity Building in the Context of Music and (Shadow) Puppetry within Mediation Processes of School Teaching

The research project "Cultural Identity Building in the Context of Music and (Shadow) Puppetry within Mediation Processes of School Teaching" researches the processes and results of a musical exchange project between two primary schools in Hildesheim and An-Jin, Taiwan.

As part of the programme "Music as a store of knowledge in museum practice", a music theatre project with pupils from the primary schools Moritzberg in Hildesheim and An-Jin in Taiwan took place in 2019. In August, pupils and teachers from the Taiwanese profile school for traditional shadow puppetry and Pak-Kóan music were able to travel to Hildesheim as guests and rehearse and perform shadow puppetry with the children, music educators from the CWM and teachers from Hildesheim. Further cooperation with the Taiwanese partners is being planned. A Taiwanese doctoral student at the CWM is working on the processes and results of the project scientifically as part of her doctorate. Embedded in scientific questions that could be addressed to both schools, the material and the insights gained from field research in An-Jin flowed into the mediation process at Moritzberg Primary School and expanded the research process with new perspectives.
