Access to the university

Welcome to the University of Hildesheim

INTEGRA is an intercultural coaching project and language course that aims to support people on their way to cultural participation through music studies. INTEGRA was held at Center for World Music for the second time in 2019. INTEGRA is made possible by funding from the Katholische Erwachsenenbildung (Catholic Adult Education) and the Ministry of Science and Culture of Lower Saxony. INTEGRA supports musicians and music mediators with a migration biography on their way to studying in Germany.

From May to September 2019, twelve selected musicians from Syria, Iran and Rwanda were taught together. The classes taught German and conveyed a particular understanding of the language through rhythm and music. The participants gained insights into all areas that are important for "musik.welt" studies; from an introduction to the library to music theory and practice. All twelve participants applied for the "musik.welt" programme. Seven were accepted into the Master's programme who also received a "Deutschlandstipendium" scholarship.

Studying at the University of Hildesheim

The Welcome Team and the International Office of the University of Hildesheim Foundation are the first point of contact for prospective students with refugee experience. Among other things, the university awards scholarships for an intensive language course and provides support in preparing for studies with individual counselling on topics such as application, financing and academic writing.

M.A. musik.welt - Cultural Diversity in Music Education

Musicians with a migration biography and/or refugee experience are invited to apply for the "musik.welt" degree programme. The diversity of musical traditions that the musicians bring with them becomes a valuable component of the degree programme at the Center for World Music.
