The Objects
The Robert Günther Collection comprises approximately 1,200 instruments from the musical cultures of sub-Saharan Africa, the Mediterranean countries (especially Yugoslavia), Japan and Indonesia.
The Collector
The ethnomusicologist, educator, philologist and psychologist Prof. Dr. Robert Günther taught and researched at the universities of Detmold, Munich, Cologne and Münster. His research focussed on the music of sub-Saharan Africa, the Mediterranean countries as well as Japan and Indonesia.
