Migration Lab Germany

Understanding migration, reflecting on the present, shaping the future

Project duration: 1.1.2021 - 30.6.2022

The transfer project Migration Lab Germany opens up a space for thought, exploration and encounter across institutional and conceptual boundaries. The focus is on the question of how people in Germany learn about migration, flight and related topics of the migration society. This lab will initially bring together 15 different multipliers from various fields of activity (museums, schools, migrant organizations, memorial sites, extracurricular cultural and political education), who will explore the topic of migration with children, young people and adults in a variety of ways and work on it pedagogically or artistically.

In an innovative and at the same time science-based advanced training series, the participants are brought into a structured dialogue. They contribute their specific content expertise and model projects and participate in three events in the form of workshops and a final conference.  In parallel, they develop and implement model projects at their respective specific learning and encounter sites. The projects are accompanied and documented by the scientific team of the University of Hildesheim. Finally, the partner organizations provide multimedia educational materials, which are made available in the media archive www.migration-lab.net. In the future, the Migration Lab network will be expanded internationally.

Migration Lab Germany is advised by the US-American partner organization Re-Imagining Migration, which transfers its experience to the project.
