This strategy is about producing and using nature-friendly technologies that use the materials and services of ecosystems without destroying them. What counts here is not only to reduce energy consumption per material flow, but also to continually reuse resources that have been used. The consistency strategy aims to create closed material and energy flows and to use and reuse resources within a closed-loop system. However, even the most intelligent material cycle cannot yet manage without material and energy losses, so absolute consistency currently remains an unattainable ideal.

• Nature is full of examples that can be used for the consistency strategy. Take an apple tree, for example, whose uneaten fruit falls to the ground and is returned to the biological cycle as nutrients.

However, in our everyday lives we also use materials that, unlike apples, are not completely biodegradable. These materials are included in the consistency strategy and are used as technical nutrients and used for recycling or upcycling.
