In a globalized world, people from different cultures live, work and communicate with each other.
Studying also enables encounters between different cultures, through which a valuable exchange and change of perspective can take place.
However, cultural differences can also lead to misunderstandings.
In order to prepare for such challenges, understanding intercultural dynamics and learning skills for successful collaboration in intercultural teams is invaluable.

This basic knowledge package aims to provide a first introduction to basic terms and definitions on intercultural competence in order to better understand the dynamics of intercultural encounters and apply them successfully in academic and professional careers. It also introduces some methods and tools that can facilitate working in intercultural teams.

In addition to time, patience and active reflection, the development of intercultural competence requires above all practical experience in real settings and should be understood as a lifelong learning process.
This e-learning only highlights some aspects of the subject area on a theoretical level and cannot be equated with face-to-face intercultural training.

The International Office of the University of Hildesheim regularly offers intercultural training and advice as well as a certificate for Intercultural Communication and Competence (ZIKK).
