Project idea | Wild bees welcome!

Project idea | Wild bees welcome!Clara Wiese2025-06-10T14:51:55+02:00

Project description

Take part in the project “Wildbienen willkommen! – Hoch hinaus für die Artenvielfalt” by Dr. Jan Hinrichs and Christina Priert from the Institute of Biology and Chemistry and transform the campus into a paradise for wild bees!

In summer 2024, the idea was born to make a windowsill on the 4th floor of the D Tower on the main campus more insect-friendly. Two balcony boxes with wildflowers and early bloomers as well as a wild oak nesting aid, which was quickly accepted by the horned mason bee, created a lively microcosm on the previously gray windowsill. The pilot project shows that even small places can provide valuable habitats for wild bees.

As part of the project, a small initiative is to be set up to create additional flowering areas and nesting sites on campus, including sandariums and nesting aids made from sustainable materials. Together, this will promote biodiversity and transform the University of Hildesheim into a more liveable place. The project offers a good opportunity for long-term observation, documentation and evaluation.
Interested parties can contact Mr. Hinrichs or the Green Office directly.
