Project description
ZITÄT
ZITÄT is a socio-cultural project around queer-feminist literature, writing and books. From 06. until August 25, 2021, ZITÄT invited visitors to discover literature in a vacant space in downtown Hildesheim. About 170 books and magazines were available to visitors. These, as well as the entire furnishings of the room, were not purchased completely new, but were borrowed from the company’s own stocks or made available. The project was aimed at people from Hildesheim who spend their summer in Hildesheim. The ZITÄT works with a solidary concept: All offers were free of charge, from the drinks, over the stay, up to the workshops. The space has provided various opportunities to connect and share. Local actors (of the literary scene), such as the city library, the Literaturhaus St. Jakobi, Schlau Hildesheim and many more. could introduce themselves and a book recommendation in the room. In addition to the regular opening hours, there were a total of five events. Through the focus on queer-feminist literature, the basic recognition of different forms of discrimination and the offer of co-designing the space, ZITÄT has acted as a safe space for many young Hildesheimers during the implementation period and also thereby enabled a safe exchange about current social, political and societal issues.
