Project description
Campusheld*innen spenden Blut (Campus heroes donate blood)
Together with the German Red Cross (DRK), we organized a blood donation campaign at the university’s main campus under the motto “Campus heroes donate blood”. The DRK Blood Donation Service NSTOB provided a blood donation vehicle for the event. We were supported by both the Green Office and the Environment+ student council. We also worked together with the Studierendenwerk OstNiedersachsen student union so that donors could get a free hot meal after donating.
The aim of the campaign was to actively contribute to achieving SDG 3 “Good health and well-being” and at the same time raise awareness of the importance of blood donations and solidarity in the healthcare sector. SDG 5 “Gender Equality” was also addressed, as all people are now allowed to donate blood regardless of gender identity and sexual orientation. Above all, we also wanted to address first-time donors and educate them about the topic of blood donation and thus allay any concerns they may have.
Blood donations are an essential measure to ensure health care in emergencies and to treat diseases. Nevertheless, a shortage of blood reserves is repeatedly reported worldwide, which underlines the urgency of such campaigns. It was therefore important to us to make a practical contribution to the local blood supply and at the same time raise awareness of this important issue among our fellow students.
