Project description

Green together

On 16.09.2023, a plant action day took place on Ottoplatz in Hildesheim’s Nordstadt district. The aim of the day of action was to promote sustainable (indoor) plant consumption and raise awareness of the local plant world. The highlight of this event was a unique form of plant exchange in collaboration with “GreenCell” by Protohaus, a non-profit limited company from Braunschweig.

The “GreenCell”, which resembles a biological cell in its shape, offers anyone interested the opportunity to share their knowledge about plants and plant offshoots. This day combined artistic and scientific approaches to sustainable plant consumption. The plant exchange was accompanied by a diverse, free program in collaboration with the Faserwerk and KUNSTRAUM53. Visitors were able to make their own seed balls to make their windowsills, balconies or gardens bloom and make a valuable contribution to the protection of insects. A second workshop enabled participants to get creative with plants. They were able to print with plants on fabrics and make their own cloths, bookmarks or patches. Another highlight of the plant action day was a herb walk through the northern part of Hildesheim. The participants got to know the local flora right on their doorstep and became more aware of local biodiversity and its protection. The main aim of the plant action day was not only to impart specialist knowledge, but also to create a meeting place where interested people could share their experiences. At the same time, the focus was on drawing attention to local plant resources and conveying a sense of self-efficacy while exploring and creatively using plants and seeds.
