Project description
“honoris causa” – (Dr. h. c.) for the sake of honor – is not only the honorary doctorate awarded by universities, but also the title of our magazine, which takes a humorous, critical look at life at this very institution, as well as philosophy. The first magazine was created as part of the 2021 project semester at the University of Hildesheim. WiSe21/22 and SoSe22 the project was continued interdisciplinary by students. The second issue of honoris causa is published in two magazines – #2a chilly climate and #2b genius. Through these two themes, we turn again to exclusionary mechanisms of academic spaces and institutions.
Because via the chilly climate it often becomes clearly “noticeable” to all, both who belongs to philosophy and academia and who does not, and which topics are philosophical and which are not. The genius as a pop-cultural figure extends manifold and far beyond university contexts and is on the one hand conceived as an ideal, on the other hand understood as something innate. This is reflected in the norms of culture, the education system, and much more. again. This makes it all the more relevant to question and deconstruct them.
By dealing with these topics, the magazine wants to create a prerequisite for entering into a conversation and thinking about them in other ways, reflecting and critically questioning them. The magazine is available free of charge in both analog and digital form.
