Sandra Pires was born in Mozambique, in the beginning
of the Civil war. She studied modern languages and
literatures in Italy, where she integrated the Italian
artistic group Vel Net. Since early, she is interested
in the sound of languages and words, and also it
combination with music and performance specially, but
also with other kinds of art. She attend to some
courses of creative writing held by the
Argentine-Italian poet Aurelia Rosa Iurilli. She have
been collaborating with many artists from the most
different areas, in Italy, Portugal and Spain. With
Marcello Maggi she lately formed the Baselitz project,
which combines her own poetries with his musical
composition. At present she attend to the PhD course
in Comparative African Literature at the Nova
University of Lisbon and she is leitora of the Camões
Institute at the King's College of London.
