Am Center for World Music der Universität Hildesheim findet die erste internationale Konferenz zu verschiedenen Aspekten äthiopischer Musik- und Dichtkunst der Azmari statt. Die Konferenz wird in Deutschland organisiert und abgehalten, da die ersten musikalischen Aufnahmen des berühmten äthiopischen Dichters und Azmari Tessema Eshete auf Shellac-Platten 1910 in Berlin entstanden sind.
Das Ziel der Konferenz ist es, Studierende und Experten aus den unterschiedlichsten Disziplinen, wie etwa Musik, Anthropologie, Geschichte, Sprachwissenschaften und Literatur, Soziologie, Bildende Kunst, Film und Musikproduktion, zusammenzubringen, um mit ihnen die literarischen und musikalischen Leistungen der Azmari innerhalb der äthiopischen Gesellschaft auszuloten und aus verschiedenen Blickwinkeln zu diskutieren. International Conference on Azmari in Ethiopia

The first international conference on the various aspects of Ethiopian poet-musicians and singers known as Azmari will be organized at the Center for World Music, Hildesheim University, Germany. The conference is scheduled to be organized in Germany, where the first ever musical recordings of the renowned Ethiopian Poet and Azmari, Tessema Eshete were made on shellac discs in Berlin in 1910. The aim of this conference is to bring scholars and experts together, who are working in the fields of music, anthropology, history, language and literature, sociology, arts, film, musical productions and recordings, etc., in order to discuss and debate the poetic and musical contributions of the Azmari in the lives of the Ethiopian society from various perspectives. The conference is funded by the Volkswagen Foundation.
