Anthology aspects of education

              

                                     

 

The anthology "aspects of education from an Eastern European perspective" was created as part of the EU project Tempus IV "networked education and training in educational management". After an introductory chapter on the importance of cooperation between German and Eastern European universities for the internationalization of the university, the book gives an insight into the research of young scientists and scientists from Eastern Europe, which deal with various aspects of education.

Rationale:

At the moment, both diversity and plurality are burning political and economic issues in the world (see the UNESCO world conference 1994; the UNO General Assembly 2006; the adoption of the UN convention by the EU 2010 etc.). Internal migration, international migration, the support of intellectual resources (human capital), the ironing-out of socio-cultural problems are not only politically, economically, socially and culturally important, but are also direct challenges to educational policy. Our task is to reduce discrimination towards other people in any form and at any level, in order to enable to a large extent the development of equal opportunities for everyone. Primarily, educational science and educational policy are called upon to focus upon the field of diversity, because, if diversity is not essentially taken into account in the educational sector by society, then the follow-up costs of unused opportunities and of failed individual biographies will in the long run be higher than investment in the greatest possible efficiency and equality in education (cf. OECD 2010).

Summary of aims and content:

The regional priority for East European countries in the project will be education and the national priority in the Russian Federation will be Teacher Education & Training and Educational Science.

The aim of this project is the qualification of educationalists and education managers in consecutive initial and further education to constructively approach diversity in educational institutions and organizations. The target groups are BA and MA students on Teacher Education & Training courses, educational science students, social pedagogy students and doctoral candidates; in Further Education the target groups are teachers, managers in education, representatives of authorities (local, town/city, welfare offices, migrant support agencies etc.).The beneficiaries of these measures are children and young people with special needs, their parents, universities, heterogeneous organizations/enterprises, the social services, migrant support agencies and local authorities.

Specific aims:

  • Cross-border networking and an international design of the initial and further education course offers in Diversity Education and Diversity Management to bring together best practice examples from the educational institutions.
  • Modernization of the curricula for Bachelor courses with an educational profile through modularized thematic clusters in diversity.
  • Development of the curriculum for Master courses in “Educational management in heterogeneous organizations”.
  • Development of modules for Further Education in Diversity Pedagogy and Management.
  • International tandem mentoring of doctoral theses in Diversity.
  • Networking in local educational scenarios to promote the inclusion of marginal groups.
  • The creation of an inclusive environment at universities.

The particular nature of the aim of this project is the focus on diversity in a holistic initial and further education system in all its facets. Educationalists and managers in general education systems need an intersectional perspective as defined by the capability approach, because they do not exclusively have to deal with certain sections of diversity. They are confronted rather with groups and organizations, which reflect the many facets of plurality (physical disabilities, speech/language problems, cultural stamping, social neglect, high flyers) in different combinations (for example, physical disability in a high flyer). There thus arises a need for educationalists who can deal with these differences competently and holistically, by cultivating tolerance and social involvement, by acquiring diagnostic and support-diagnostic competences, by learning to employ differentiated learning strategies and  specific learning methods; educationalists who have mastered the strategies und techniques of social integration to be able to direct processes of integration in heterogeneous organizations and develop pluralistic organization cultures.

International Networking through Project Work within IAHE

The EU project

Networked and Consecutive Initial and Further Education and Training in Educational Management

(159371-TEMPUS-DE-TEMPUS-JPCR)

was successfully concluded in the spring of 2013.

 

Looking back, three years of intensive project work can now be documented. The network consisting of 12 West and East European Universities achieved its main aim and effectively carried out the tasks set out in the project: i.e.

The provision of an international curriculum for three consecutive phases of initial and further education with required standards

and

The provision of a transnational curriculum in a three-cycle-system for doctorate students in Educational Management.

Each East European partner built up a centre of competence Educational Management and International Educational Programmes with the assistance and advice of the EU Universities, which will work sustainably towards quality assurance in transnational further education programmes. Thanks go to all the academic personnel and scientists of the network who, in international personal exchanges, were ready to form new networks and give shape to new and further cooperation in tertiary education between the European Union and its partner countries, as well as to the understanding between cultures, in designing the academic landscape of tomorrow. A lively exchange of students and lecturers further strengthened and intensified the intellectual scientific dialogue between East and West.
