Intelligent Information Systems

Welcome on the website of the Research Group on Intelligent Information Systems at the University of Hildesheim

The research group Intelligent Information Systems belongs to the institute of computer science of the University of Hildesheim. Our focus is on combining fundamental research of knowledge-based systems with application-oriented research and development. More specifically, this encompasses Case-Based Reasoning (CBR), decision support systems, distributed learning and multi-expert systems, experience management, process modeling and enactment, and agent technology. Our research group participated in several research projects for example the ESPRIT and IST projects INRECA, INRECA+, INRECA II, and ESERNET. We posses extensive experiences in technology transfer as well as fundamental research.

Experiences gained from our research activities are immediately transfered into lectures offered to several courses of study like Information Management and Technology, Business Information Systems, and International Information Management. Please find more information about current and previous projects or our team.

IIS-Team wins 2nd Computer Cooking Contest

In the course of this year's International Conference on Case-Based Reasoning (ICCBR-09) in Seattle, Washington, USA the international Computer Cooking Contest (CCC) took place for the second time. Within the contest the contestants competed in two disciplines: the Compulsory Task in which the teams had to create a recipe that met individual constraints and the Menu Challenge that aimed at creating a whole menu containing a starter, a main dish and a dessert according to a set of given specifications. The individual results were evaluated  by a jury of researches in the field of CBR and local chef Kathy Hanken.

Five teams from the USA, France, Spain, and Germany qualified for the final round. The contestants were evaluated according to three aspects: the culinary quality of the created recipes, the technical quality of the competitors' systems and the scientific originality of the individual solutions. CookIIS, the candidate of the IIS research group, achieved the highest score in all three categories and was thus awarded the title "World Champion of the 2nd Computer Cooking Contest".

The next round of the Computer Cooking Contest will be held in the course of the ICCBR 2010 in Alessandria, Italy. Students who wish to contribute to the development of next year's candidate via project work or final theses should contact Professor Klaus-Dieter Althoff for further information.
