The "new" faculty 4

The "new" faculty 4 was founded in April 2009. It bundles the STEM disciplines (STEM: science, technology, engineering, and mathematics) within the University of Hildesheim - in our case mathematics, natural sciences, economics, computer science and technology education. In Germany, there is consensus within the scientific community, policy makers and companies that a special focus on graduates in STEM fields is needed to maintain economic competitiveness. The new faculty 4 strongly supports this necessity.

Courses of study

Within the area of information technology we offer two consecutive courses of study: »Information Management & Information Technology« and »Information Systems«, both on Bachelor and Master levels (B.Sc. / M.Sc.; German: »Informationsmanagement and Informationstechnologie« / »Wirtschaftsinformatik«)

In Environmental Sciences we offer »Environmental preservation« (»Umweltsicherung«) on the Bachelor level (within the 2-subject-Bachelor of Science below) and »Environmental Sciences and nature protection« (»Umweltwissenschaft und Naturschutz«) on the Master level (B.Sc. / M.Sc.)

The University of Hildesheim also offers a 2-subject-Bachelor-course with a large variety of subjects. The faculty 4 contributes to this Bachelor-course with the subjects of Biology, Chemistry, Geography, Mathematics, Physics, Technology education and Economics. If the main subject is one of these subjects, a Bachelor of Science is awarded (otherwise, a Bachelor of Arts). The 2-subject-Bachelor of Science can be combined with either a teacher education focus (qualifying for subsequent studies of a Master of Education) or a professional focus, e.g. »Environmental preservation« (»Umweltsicherung«) named above.

Despite a small part of classes being tought in English, a good command of the German language is neccessary to study the courses currently offered. The International Office (IO) of the University of Hildesheim will be glad to offer assitance to any students form abroad if they are interested in studying here - both full-time and as an exchange student.

We currently maintain ERASMUS cooperations with 8 universitys in 6 countries (Austria, Croatia, Danmark, Spain, Switzerland, Turkey).

Research

The faculty 4 is actively particiapting in research world-wide, with numerous cooperations and partner nationally and internationally. Out research focuses are Information Technology (IT), Environmental Sciences and didactics in natural sciences and mathematics.

We emphasise a unity of research and teaching and strive for research-orientied studying. We have intensive contacts and cooperations with local companies and schools and foster junior researchers.
